Why ZIP rather than anything else
ZIP is the only archive format that opens with a double-click on Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and Linux without installing anything. That makes it the correct choice whenever a human, rather than a server, is on the receiving end.
Expect meaningful compression on documents, code and text, and almost none on photos, video or audio, which are already compressed internally.
Sending large bundles
Most email providers reject attachments over 25 MB. If the archive lands above that, split it into logical parts or share it through a link instead.
