Pick a width that matches the destination
Full-width website hero images rarely need more than 1920 px. Blog body images are usually displayed at 800-1200 px. Thumbnails need 300-400 px. Serving a 4000 px photo into a 600 px slot wastes bandwidth and directly harms your Largest Contentful Paint score.
Downscaling is safe; upscaling is not. Enlarging a small image cannot invent detail, it only makes the existing pixels bigger and softer.
Resizing and quality
Resizing re-samples the picture, so save the result once at your target size rather than resizing the same file repeatedly. Keep the original as your master.
Frequently asked questions
Will resizing distort my image?
- No. Height is derived from the width so the aspect ratio is preserved.
Can I resize many images at once?
- Yes — add up to 20 and download them as a ZIP.
Are the images uploaded?
- No. Resizing runs on your device.
