Client-side conversion explained

Modern browsers expose Canvas, WebCodecs, WebAssembly and Web Workers, which together are enough to decode and re-encode images, audio, video, PDFs and archives locally.

The privacy benefit is structural rather than a policy promise: with no upload there is no server copy, no retention window and no third-party processor.

The trade-offs are device CPU limits and browser codec availability, which is why very large media jobs can be slower than a server-side service.
